I was 16 when I was put on anxiety medication and birth control. Two prescriptions handed to me to manage the things my body kept showing me. Painful periods. Breakouts. Anxiety that wouldn't quit. So I took them, year after year, well into my mid-twenties. I thought I was handling my health. What I didn't realize is that those prescriptions weren't fixing anything. The birth control alone, taken for a decade, was quietly contributing to an unraveling I wouldn't fully understand until much later.
By my mid-twenties, my body was breaking down. Daily stomach pain. Brain fog so thick I couldn't process information. Night sweats that had me changing clothes and rotating spots in my bed. Body aches. Anxiety that kept me in bed for whole days at a time. And then there was the moment I'll never forget. I was lying on my floor with my hands on my stomach, focusing on my breath, tears rolling sideways into my hair, just praying for the pain to pass. My stomach was so distended I was scared to move. So I didn't. I just laid there, breathing, waiting for it to pass.
I begged my doctors for answers. After endless visits and rounds of testing, I walked away with a handful of diagnoses (like PCOS, IBS, generalized anxiety disorder) and a list of medications a mile long that came with side effects I wasn't willing to take on. So I didn't. When I started bringing up things I'd been reading about, asking about natural alternatives, asking whether some of my issues might have deeper causes, the answers were dismissive. No, that doesn't work. No, this is the way we do it. I was the one digging my heels in, advocating for myself, asking for referrals, and still walking away without real answers.
So I started looking elsewhere. I started researching how to relieve my anxiety naturally. That was the door. Once I walked through it, there was no going back. I started learning about the body. About the nervous system. About how my food, my stress, my sleep, my daily light, and my products were all communicating with my body in ways no one had ever explained to me.
And then I hit the part nobody warns you about. The overwhelm. The internet was an information avalanche. One source said something would change my life. The next called it placebo. I had no idea who to trust, where to start, or what was a real practitioner versus someone trying to just sell me a something. I tried things. I wasted money. I'd stand in the body care aisle at Whole Foods reading ingredient lists and walk out empty-handed because I couldn't tell what was real and what was greenwashing. I told myself I didn't have the time or resources to truly invest in this, only to circle back six months later still feeling terrible. It took me years to figure out what actually mattered, what to ignore, and how to put the pieces together in the right order.
But I stuck with it. I kept reading. I kept learning. I kept making changes, even the small ones, even on the days I wasn't sure anything was working. I trusted that the body responds to consistency, even when the shifts are too small to feel in real time.
And somewhere in those years, things started to change. Not in a flash. Not in a dramatic before-and-after. My anxiety, the thing that had defined me for a decade, started to loosen its grip. I realized I wasn't having panic attacks anymore. My acne was slowly clearing. The night sweats stopped. And one day I stopped to think and realized it had been a long time since I'd curled up on the couch in the fetal position waiting for stomach pains to pass. The symptoms had quietly left, because I was finally supporting my body with what it genuinely needed and getting rid of the things that weren't helping it.
That experience is what also helped build this course. Because in the years since, I've watched almost every woman I work with start where I started. Tired. Overwhelmed. Trying things that don't quite stick. Searching for the missing piece. And what I keep finding is that the missing piece is the foundation. The same foundation it took me years to build for myself. So I built it into a course, in the order I wish someone had handed it to me. So you don't have to spend years piecing it all together and figuring out what to trust.
